Heroes Part II

More proof that we don't see who in our midst are the real heroes. Here is a story that I bet bottom dollar never made the MSM or your local news. I have no doubt that the father of that child does not see him as the enemy and I'll bet that when he comes of age the little boy will not either. CPT Powell's actions are the type that will win this war. These stories spread by word of mouth in the tribal environment of Iraq and according to the code of Wasta and Baksheesh that tribe now owes him and his men a favor of equal value in return.
CPT Powell is from Newport Beach, CA. For those of you who do not know; NB is a high dollar spread and you don't live there unless you have some serious ducats. CPT Powell is regular Army and a member of the 1st Cavalry Division. Those of you who know me know how I feel about the Cav so don't be surprised if you hear one day that I ran into CPT Powell at a bar in Killeen or NB and bought him a beer.

I am sure CPT Powell gave all the necessary considerations to possible ambush scenarios but in the true American spirit moved forward taking all precautions for his men and with the determination to help these people and the boy. I am also sure that there are many such stories that happen in country everyday. And you are right; the media does not pick up on it. The actions of CPT Powell and his men is exactly what makes the American soldier so admirable and at the same time feared. And it is exactly why we should all be proud of them, they are us. How can we as a nation forget that and not let them know by not putting up with the BS from our congress? Notice the father of the boy knew exactly where he could go for help!

Something we do not often consider is that one of the reasons so many young Muslim from the region are fighting against us is that they have nothing better to do. James, you having lived in that region in civilian life know what I mean. So when you have nothing better to look forward to why not try to show what you can do against the best? In the warrior class the American soldier is the best and it is compassion like that shown by CPT Powell and his men that combined with the training and equipment make them the best. Sort of the Old West mentality here in the USA when the top gunfighter always drew the young punk who thought he was better, faster and died for the thought.

God Bless CPT Powell and All of our fine young men and women keeping the rest of us safe tonight.

My first thought would have been .."it's a setup" that was a huge risk. What a brave and smart man to make the right decision.
